Going to move from US ---> UK after married. Anyone have any websites?
My fiancee and I decided it would be easier if I moved to the UK after we were married,
can we get married here and then go there without a special visa? I've looked all over the
net and cannot find anything. Could somebody please respond. Thank you - A soon to be
happy couple

Try: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/
Did you also try doing a search "visas UK" or something like that, what about "UK
consulates?" Try calling information for NYC, DC, LA or Dallas- I know they have
consulates/embassies there.
I know someplace on the net I once stumbled across an Alvena- like website homepage for
marriage-based visas for the UK. I didn't bookmark it cuz my UK fiance is moving here to
the US. Those sites are out there, though! Keep searching- try using a few different
search engines, or try asking on www.askme.com
Good luck!, Beth

Go to http://www.britainusa.com/consular/visas/visas.asp -- you need a settlement and
marriage visa. It will cost $372.00. You have to file at a British Consulate.

I can tell you from personal experience that it is possible to get through this without
spending anything.
My USC wife came over to the UK (before we were married) as a tourist. After 4 months we
were married in the UK and then applied to change her status.
We applied with copies of our marriage certificate, birth certificates, passports, divorce
documents, photos and 6 months of my bank statements.
All it cost was 3 pounds sterling for the photograph machine!
That was 13 months ago. We received a visa allowing her to stay for an initial 12 month
period. Last month we applied to have the restriction lifted and she is now allowed to
stay here indefinitely. It can take quite some time to process the visa, but we were told
by the immigration officer that once we had applied, she would be able to remain in the
country until her visa was granted.
Of course, now we are planning to move to the States and so now *I* am going through the
visa process which is proving to be much more costly and time consuming than what we went
through for my wife.

Could you tell us how and why the visa fee was waived in your case? There is a couple
here who is looking into getting resident status for the US wife and this would be most
helpful for them.

There was no visa fee to waiver.
My wife travelled here on a visa waiver to visit for 6 months before we married. Whilst
she was here we decided to marry and then applied for leave to remain as the spouse of a
person already settled in the UK. There is no charge once you are actually here.
Weird concept, huh?
