Hi All,

I am looking to gain a better understanding of whether or not me (and my siblings) would be considered eligible for a British passport through descent.

My mother was born in England (both her parents were born in England), moved to the U.S. when she was around 8 years old, and became a U.S. citizen sometime before she turned 18. My father was born in the U.S.

I was born after 1983 in the U.S.

Unless your mother formally gave up her British Citizenship by an application to the UK Home Office, she is still a British Citizen. Therefore, you are a British Citizen by descent. All you need to do is to apply for your British passport using the link below -

Please note that as a British Citizen by descent, you cannot automatically pass on your British Citizenship to your child born outside of the UK.
