British Citizen (by descent)
My friend's father has become British Citizen (BC) since 1991 during serving the Hong Kong Royal Police Force and he and his wife are now holding BC passports.
The British Citizen parents have one daughter and one son. Both born before 1991.
The daughter was aged over 18 and son was under 18 in 1991.
Both daughter and son are NOT British Citizen and not born in Britian.
The son has a wife and two children.
In what way can the son apply for BC passport with his wife and two children?
In what way can the daughter (Martial status is single) apply for BC passport?
Thanks in advance for any advices

Re: British Citizen (by descent)
Hi, and welcome to BE.
Rather than asking on behalf of somebody else, please ask your friend to sign up themselves, it's very hard to help when getting info from a third party. I don't see how they think they can get a passport if they're not British citizens (after all, you do have to be a citizen of a country to get a passport!), but perhaps BritinParis will be able to help them see if there is any route to citizenship or a visa. No doubt he'll need more info or questions answering though, so please ask your friend to sign up himself, thanks.

If your friend's father became a British citizen in 1991 under the British Nationality Selection Scheme then he should have registered his wife and children by the end of 1996. If he didn't then they are no longer able to acquired British citizenship through their father. It seems odd that he would register his wife (unless she acquired British citizenship in her own right) and not his children. Perhaps your friend's father did in fact register him as a British citizen at the time; has he asked his father?

Re: British Citizen (by descent)
Thanks all for the advice above. I will tell the enquirer sign up as soon as possible when he comes back.
Yes, the father got the British Citizen from the selection scheme. His father confirmed that he did not include the daughter (over 18) and son (below 18) in the application at that time. Yes, it is really odd. The father explained he was given to know that children should not be included in the application. Obviously, it’s wrong information. That’s why he wants to know whether he can get any chance to have the BC passport now and how.
Seem that the chance is slim.

Is your friend's father 100% sure that he did not include your friend (under 18 son in 1991) in his application? There may be a registration certificate at the bottom of a drawer somewhere!
If it turns out that your friend's father did register his under 18 son in 1991 for British Citizenship, then the only way for his wife and 2 children to gain British Citizenship is via settlement in the UK.

Though it’s hard to believe and accept, it’s 100% fact. The family only got 2 Certificates for the parents but none for the children. Seems that it’s an unrecoverable mistake.
Then, is it eligible for the adult son to apply for the family visa via settlement in UK through the father? It may be more complicated way and need many years.

I cannot understand why your friend's father never included his under 18 son as part of his application for British Citizenship under the British Nationality Selection scheme.

Ancestry visa (presumbly a cheaper and easier method) not feasible?

That would require a UK-born grandparent.
