Default Aussie Wife, British Husband moving to the UK- advice please

Hi all,

I am an aussie married to a Brit. We have a 17m child born here in Aus and has a British passport as well. We are thinking of moving to the UK to settle as a family but have some factors to consider before the big move.

We just have some random questions I hope someone can help with:
1) If I apply now for the spouse visa yet we don't know the date/year we definitely want to move (most likely won't be this year), can we put down a date in 2018 or 2019 or should we just apply closer to the time? I like to be organised so having the visa approved would just make it more real ☺

2) on the spouse visa, if I fall pregnant will I be able to have pregnancy care and give birth in a public hospital in the U.K. and covered by the NHS? I read something about not being entitled to "public funds" but unsure if this is what it means.

3) does anyone know if we are able to get a mortgage from a U.K. Bank whilst we are both in Australia working? We are just thinking of buying a house in the UK now as an investment while we are currently over here so when we move over we will have something to move into.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers!

1. no..... you can only apply within 3 months of intended date of move.

2. Yes

3. Have you tried to obtain one. I should think probably not.

Expat mortgages aren't easy to get, I don't know much about them other than HSBC does advertise them. May also be worth a conversation with a specialist UK brokerage. Suspect large deposit would be required.

You'll have absolutely no bother regards pregnancy care - that doesn't count as recourse to public funds.

Yes I did see HSBC did expat mortgages but lots of requirements are needed. I think we will just wait till we arrive over there although we will most likely be on one salary first whereas we are both currently working here now.

Thank you for clarifying about pregnancy care, It's just good to know just in case.

Lots to think about now, to move over sooner or later!

You need to fulfill financial requirements. This can be done by employment income (only husband's income qualifies) or savings/investments (can be joint)

Read the following document carefully to see how you can qualify:
