Default 1-year RC (EEA2) if EEA family member is working on temporary contracts?

A quick question on behalf of a friend. He's Greek, just moved to Belfast and will be joined by his Chinese wife after a few weeks.

He has been offered a full-time temporary job in an office. It's only for about 4 months with no guarantee of becoming permanent. If he were to take this job and then apply for EEA1 (for himself) would his EEA1 be rejected? It seems that many jobs these days are temporary contracts and he's a bit worried that taking a temp job would influence his wife's right to stay in the UK. She will apply for EEA2 when she gets to the UK (provided he gets a pay-slip) and contact.

I've read that it shouldn't matter if you're on a temp contract, but some people have said that the Home Office might give a residence card for 1 year initially and then require that you apply again if the spouse is still exercising treaty rights. Is that correct?

All ideas welcomed!

Thx

So long as he's exercising his Treaty rights then a residence card should forthcoming. It's merely confirming your right to live and work in the UK.

Cool! Thanks. I've been offered a few temp contracts too but I think I'm gonna go with a perm one (low salary tho).

Thanks again
