Teaching In Hong Kong
Hi Guys,
I am looking to live and work in Hong Kong for a couple of years. I intend on undertaking the relevant TEFL course and teach English. My partner is a Hong Kong native and we are going back to spend time with her family and we are also due a baby this month.
Is it essential to have a degree as well as the TEFL qualification?, I only have a basic degree without classification as I didn't do a dissertation but I am able to get a certificate showing this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I wouldn't want to undertake the course only to find my basic degree prevents me from finding work!
Kind Regards,
SimonW

You will need a visa to work in Hong Kong. However, if you are 30 or under, you can apply for a working holiday visa, which will last for 1 year. You can see details below -
Guidance Notes on Working Holiday Scheme | Working Holiday Scheme | Hong Kong Visas | Public Services | Immigration Department
However, as your OH is a Hong Kong resident, you may qualify for a Hong Kong dependants visa. Please see link below for Hong Kong dependants visa -
Guidebook for Entry for Residence as Dependants in Hong Kong | Residence as Dependants | Hong Kong Visas | Public Services | Immigration Department
For teaching English at Hong Kong state schools, you can see link below for details -

If you were born in the UK and a British citizen, your child born overseas can become a British citizen.
Good luck.
