Setting up a business in HK
Hi I am looking to set up a business in Hong Kong but need some help with a few questions before I invest more time, effort and money if anyone could help or point me in the right direction that would be really helpful,
- Are there any restrictions to setting a business up, for example do shareholders/directors have to be HK residents, or at least one?
- Is there a min amount needed to invest?
- What are the visa restrictions coming over as a director?
- Is it possible to repatriate profit, and if so how much are the taxation rates of that profit?
Cheers
Matt

Re: Setting up a business in HK
Hi Matt,
I am based in HK and have been assisting clients to establish their businesses here for the past seven years. Hope the below assists:
-The statutory requirements for establishing an entity in HK are straightforward and relatively simple. Directors/shareholders do not have to be residents in HK and it is still possible to use corporate entities, though this practice will be changing in 2014.
-There is currently no min amount required for investment, unless you are setting up a company in a industry that would require licenses such as in the asset management/advisory industry.
-There are a number of different visa you can apply for based on how the new company is set up. There are no restrictions for directors. Working visas it typically take 4-6 weeks to process.
-In 2011 HK and UK signed a Double Taxation Agreement, which states that withholding tax on dividends issued will be subject to a 0% taxation rate on repatriation.
Hope the above helps Matt. Please send me an email should require some further information about the set up.
Kind regards,
Kyle

Personally, I don't know. I'm retired here. However there's been a couple kf threads going in Malaysia forum about the subject, and one guy has set up in business. I'll try and find a link for you tomorrow, or come over to Malaysia section and take a look.

There's quite a few other threads... just do a Search within Malaysia for "business".
