Default Moving back to the UK after 8 years in China!

Good afternoon fellow expats. I'm new to this site, so nice to meet you.
We've decided that we would like to move our family back to the UK, mainly for the sake of the children's upbringing/education.
I hope that someone with similar experiences of moving back to the UK after a long time abroad can PM me so that I can learn from your experience. It's obviously a daunting task, especially with two little ones so it would be great help if I could talk to someone in the same boat! Thanks in advance - any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

My advice is don't do it !!
Seriously, if the only reason you are thinking of returning is the kids education then I would suggest you search for an acceptable solution whilst working in China.
Most of the people that I know that have voluntarily returned to UK have regretted it.

Hi, thanks for your reply. What kinds of regrets did they have after moving back to the UK? I gather that you're in Hong Kong where the situation is much different from the Chinese mainland in terms of education etc. I really can't see any benefit to staying here long-term. It's seriously bad for the health here and most Chinese cities have the same problems.

have a chat with the members in the moving back to uk section

http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=61

you would need to look at the time you have been away and how difficult it would be to get back and what you would need to do to achieve that

ok its seems there are other reasons like the pollution etc.
The regrets stemmed mainly from the huge cultural difference (sound strange I know as you actually come from there). It really does depend on what kind of a life you have overseas, friends, out of work interest etc. Some missed friends, some were bored with the lifestyle. Some could not get used to the weather.

I see the vultures are circling.

Well said that man

If your planning on moving back to UK just for the sake of a perceived better education in UK, then I urge you to think more.

I suggest you really look at some of the foreign schools in China, of which there are a growing number every day.

After 4 years in China, we had to come back to UK for personal reasons, but I can see us both back out in China in the not so distant future, and yes, when the time is right, our baby will get a top quality duel education in China.
