Living in Lohas Park!
Hi there,
My wife and I are moving from London to Hong Kong next month and have been looking around for places to live on the island and not too far away from my office around Causeway bay. We have been looking at 2 bed modern apartments on various websites but with a budget of $20k a month, haven't found many that are bigger than 500-600 sq. ft.
Does anyone have thoughts on what it is like to live around Lohas Park? I saw some nice large reasonable modern apartments there and the commute to Causeway bay on the MTR seems reasonable (I hope!). Only negative thing I have heard is about a waste disposal unit not too far from Lohas park which occasionally 'smells' but wondering if it really is that bad? Let me know if in your opinion we should just try and find something smaller around North Point / Quarry Bay.
I have only spent 4 days of my life in HK so any inputs will be really appreciated!
Cheers,
KK
PS. incidentally, does anyone know of furniture shops that sell chesterfield sofas? I have a massive soft spot for chesterfield sofas but didn't really want to go through the hassle of shipping mine from the UK!

Hi and welcome.
Lohas Park is a good place to live and convenient for the City on the MTR. Much better than North Point or Quarry Bay. I have no idea about the refuse smell but if you are on a high floor would not have thought this would be an issue.
I cant help with Chesterfield sofa but suggest you google.

No personal experience with the waste disposal at Lohas Park but the news stories suggest it is strong enough to lower property values, which is saying something.
Nowhere to dump - Focus Hong Kong - China Daily
My only general advice is to consider a two-week or one month 'corporate' apartment rental when you first arrive so you can see places on the ground, rather than trying to rent over the Internet. Prices will be lower if you are here in person to negotiate and you can see the adverts in the shop windows, along with check out the neighborhood in person.
The furniture stores here generally have a policy of "we'll make whatever you want". If you have a design, photo, and most importantly the size of your elevators, hallways and doors for getting it into your flat, they'll create whatever you want.
If you'd rather just visit the shops, you can go to Horizon Plaza in Ap Lei Chau or walk along Queens Road East in Wanchai (though the stores there are getting priced out of business).

Thanks both for your replies. I think it'll be a case of walking around and seeing the place for myself.
Best,
KK
