Dear all,

I'm graduating this summer and have been offered a two-year contract with a small tutoring agency in Hong Kong. It sounds like quite a good deal, the hours are minimal and the work enjoyable. However, I'm wondering how far the salary would go in terms of housing, etc.

The salary is £20,000 or $264,000 per year.

I'd be very grateful to hear your thoughts.

I think there is a mistake in the conversion.

Probably closer to $225,000 per year ( its under the magic 12.0 at the moment) and I would think that your salary is very close to being unworkable
Flat share would make it more possible but not easy to find somewhere for under 8 to 10,000 a month. Add in MPF small provision for tax and transport etc.
Sharing with say two others and you can rent a decent place for 5,000 each a month

The first to to sort out is whether your salary is defined in GBP or HK$. If you have been offered HK$264,000 per annum then that is currently much better that GBP20k per annum.

Housing is horrendously expensive in HK but if you can find a reasonable flat share then you should be ok.
