Well, all depends.

$1.5mil HKD (1.25 after taxes) is more than 90-95% of Hong Kong'ers annual income. I think the median income of the top 10% of Hong Kong residents is $960,000 (a survey released last week).

That said, it really is "how long is a piece of string?" Do you have a family coming with you? Do you have children in need of international school places? Do you want a car, driver, helper (or two)? What size apartment do you want?

If you are single and don't need much, then you'll be able to save quite a bit. If you have two kids in school and want a 2,000+ sq foot modern building in the Midlevels, maybe not as much. Almost all of the folks I know survive on less, even much less. But some folks I know get your salary as just their housing allowance.

It's a very good salary dreameratuq. As long as you don't blow it all on renting a really expensive place, you will be very comfortable with this level of income.
