I suggest you scrape your nose of the ceiling you condescending idiot - the OP got the responses her posts merited. The hysterical type postings of I HAVE TO THINK OF MY FAMILY >>>> what?? I believe thats what all of us do when we have kids. It was a naiive post and provoked the reaction it got from us.
and NO not everyone does think about their families actually-I like to also point out why do u need "Gated Communities"..........

as for gated communities - I'd never live on one and they're designed to attract overseas investors - particularly US ctizens where gated communities are the norm - I come to live on the island I choose - not a heap of expats trying to have little England in the sunshine .... which is how many gated communities across the Caribbean have become. Gated communities are the worst aspect of Caribbean living to me .... its not about safety, its a culture thing.

Just reading the exchange of words and facts going on…..If you are looking for a place in the world that offers no violence of any kind you aren’t going to find it.
St Lucia is beautiful…as are most of the other islands. In my opinion if you focus on a few incidents and allow that to cloud your judgement I’m sure that your wont ever be happy anywhere that you go!!!!!!
It may be better for you to try out the islands yourself rather than relying on others views.
One thing that all of the islands can offer is a relaxed way of life in beautiful beautiful surroundings and a lot cheaper than the UK.!!
Happy Searching

Say bye bye to all the processed crap we fill our bodies with and hello to freshly grown local provisions, fruit and locally caught fish and hey presto your dollar stretches a long way. Even better, grow some fruits and provisions of your own to cut the bill even further, and boy do things grow quick here.

think you've got me confused with another poster .... I cant show you round as I dont live in SLU - I live 100 miles away on another island.

Here, here !! Good points raised. Cheaper if you adopt the local way of life, but a pocket burner if you try and live like a tourist long term. Imported luxeries can be very expensive as are cars. However if you know how to budget and appreciate the simple beauty and culture you will do just fine.

Same problems as anywhere else...I think unless you can garden full time you have to see it as a supplement to what you buy at the market, we have nice herbs and vegetables.

Thanks for your posts. Watching them, throughout the forums, I had become accustomed to your failure to grasp the most basic rules of English punctuation, the things that I learned when I was seven years old. But it wasn’t until I read your most recent posts that I appreciated that your failings in basic punctuation were wholly matched by your failings in basic English spelling and your ignorance of law.
As any fool knows, clarity of writing is always an excellent index of clarity of thought. The clarity of your writing, pgtips, leaves me doubtful about the clarity of your thinking.
We might return to that matter later. For now, let us address an assertion you have made on an internationally-accessible website. The assertion relates directly to me, and this is it:
“[Y]ou need to see a psychologist … you come across as a guy with serious issues which need resloving [sic] in your life.
My opinion is that it would be a good idea for you to withdraw that assertion, or somehow otherwise amend it, before tomorrow. Tomorrow begins at 12:00 a.m on Saturday, 29 March 2008.
If you don’t, I guarantee consequences.

Is it that I write grammatical sentences without spelling mistakes? Or is it something else? Whence the "condescending" characterization? Please, I pray, do tell.
And let me repeat, since you posted on an internationally-accessible site, your answer will be very important.
Thanks.

Re: Whats the safest place to bring a family in the carribean?
I would reccomend Barbados and Grenada.
Grenada is very peaceful, safe and a great environment for a family.
However i must say i am biased to Barbados, as i have was born and raised here! From all the stories i hear i believe Barbados has one of the better medical care facilities and physicians in the Caribbean, and excellent schooling systems. There is very little crime here, and i feel completely safe. People are amazingly friendly, ask any visitor.
I must also say as i think another said, islands to avoid definitely are; Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic, Guyana.
Hope this helps... Feel free to contact me!

Re: Whats the safest place to bring a family in the carribean?
well a lot has been said so all I can add is my 'feelings' on what I have found
after 10 years of searching for the perfect place to retire to.... from a choice of all of the different islands and countries we picked Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos ...firstly it has a very low crime rate, a very high rate of crimes solved...they speak English and they use the British rules of justice..Guns are illegal, as are air guns, harpoons and porn? It is a very Christian country and the majority of people are not that well off, however they are very proud, friendly and happy. We fell in love with the place, bought a house and are happy. Children are treated with great love and kindness, as are their cars??
Provo isnt perfect, but being tax free, cheaper than the UK and being on an island missed by all the hurricanes makes us feel happy and safe.
In time maybe things will change who knows, but for now it gets my vote as the number 1.
