Moving to Bermuda/BVI/Cayman with police record
 

Hi

Im currently studying towards my chartered accountancy exams. When I qualify I am looking to move to one of the above islands. My main concern is that around 4 years ago i received a police caution for cannabis possession (in the UK). As far as i know this will show up on a police certificate however i was not arrested or taken to court.

Does anyone know how strict immigration is in any of the above countries and whether the caution would result in a work permit being declined?

Speaking for Cayman, I have to say I don't know. Our Immigration authorities (bastards to a man and woman, but that's just by the way) need to see "a Police Report" from an intending migrant's home Police Force. The best thing might be for you to ask the latter. If their standard report doesn't mention cautions, then you don't need to worry.

Its probably the criminal record report you get from ACPO in the uk - needs you to complete a form, send photos and pay 30-40 pounds. Very pretty, hologram, security printed photo etc.

But it will say 'no live trace, or even the details of the caution, accepting a caution is the same as pleading guilty, but without the need to appear in court, so they will need to see the details of the case.
