You can always ship a car, but you havent said from where so nobody can say how easy it will be or what it will cost.

The things that will make it a waste of time are - how much duty / fees / taxes do you have to pay on import, how does it get maintained? How do you get it a new windshield? Does that device work well and resist the wet/saline climate in the tropics? Does it meet any emissions rules on the island [if not you might be forced to send it back...]

Typically people either buy imported japanese clunkers for no money, or stick to vehicles with good local garage support.

Not easy, uk shippers like ram dont go to the us owned virgin islands, USVI shipping is mainly from the states via tropical line. Tropical also call into a lot of the islands that the uk shippers visit so im sure its possible but maybe via transshipment, guess 2000-4000 pounds to ship, but for example in grenada - which is really expensive - if your car is worth 10000 and old, the environmental levy duty vat etc etc would be about another 15000. NB you will be charged it on the cost of the vehicle plus freight plus insurance... Customs pretty much always value cars - and will ignore your receipt or valuation. The actual rates could be much lower in the usvi but dont underestimate the need to conform with any local rules about the actual vehicle. If they drive on the right, a RHD car may be an issue or just expensive to insure. Suggest you visit, talk to customs, local shipoing agents, find someone who came from the uk, get all their calculations and talk to ram shipping and others re shipping. Or just buy one on the island :-)

Nnb nice in the uk can be hell in the tropics. If it wasnt made in or for the tropics, chances are it wont last long...

Eg honda crv's made in swindon are fine but any european ford - 2 years? Range rovers and any small nissans are rubbish. Cars made in the eu - typically need repainting after a few years and exposed plastics on cars left outside die in the sun.

Most popular cars here - anything toyota, isuzu trucks, hyundai/kia have a following, mahendra.

Japanese indian or thai vehicles are good, oh - nexican fords are bad - their trucks cant take the pressure on rough roads / the tropics, their auto boxes die regularly.

Most popular used cars - suzuki vitara and toyota rav4, both imported cheap from japan. Strangely the new ines arent as robust now.
