Expat life in the Bahamas?

Re: Expat life in the Bahamas?
What, on the Cayman Islands? Must have gone up since the last time I checked (which was awhile ago) on my memory is failing me, I heard the govt. there was having serious financial issues. But anyway you reminded me that The Bahamas also has some steep import duties as well.
I came quite close to getting a job on Cayman Brac but it's just too small. I'm afraid money is only so much of a motivator.

Right, so basically The Bahamas has higher import duties and it also has payroll taxes and property taxes (except in the FTZ), so compared to the Cayman Islands it is going to be more expensive to live there. But on the other hand, it's substantially easier to immigrate into The Bahamas and it's also closer to the US if you want to go shopping or need specialist medical care.
In a nutshell. Crime is high on NPI but I'd be surprised if Grand Bahama was significantly worse than Grand Cayman in that regard.

Just after we got back from Nassau, after being told that it was safe to wander around, a tourist was shot dead at the end of the bridge linking over to paradise island in a mugging. Crime is relative to how serious it is I guess.
