I only have until Monday to decide if I will accept the Job offer in Jamaica. Salary is very low but the job position is a great opportunity for me to expand my skills and study and take board exams in USA. Planning to stay for 2 years and move to NY. Is Jamaica bad as they say? My employer says that I will live in Kingston (near office) for a month until I find a permanent place for myself. I currently live in the Philippines and I know crime rate here is pretty high for locals but not for expats. What I want to know if it is very dangerous for an expat to work in Jamaica?

Kingston has a few no-go areas, especially in Kingston, which your people will tell you about. You'll have to tell us what kind of job you've got, and roughly what you'll be getting paid. Will your wage be in J$$ or some other currency? There's a lot of unemployment in the country, which usually means crime.

So did you take the job `multivitamins' and how did you get on? I ask as I am in a similar position. I think my salary will be about the equivalent of 30,000 USD but in J$. - any more info Gordon Barlow (or anyone else would be much appreciated )
