Re: Living the Canadian dream
Jeannie, good luck on your move. Homesickness at some point gets to every expat no matter where they are. For some, it never goes away and can lead to years of being unsettled. For others it just passes and life goes on as normal. All of our expat friends who have moved on from Canada, did so as they were unhappy and the 'grass is greener' dreams they came with never materialized. Canada for some, feels like home immediately but for others it never does and never will. For us it never did. At first we were happy to be here, but never really content. Now we are planning our move to Spain, where we are looking forward to warmer weather, a different culture and cheap easy access to all that Europe has to offer. Also leaving the long boring, cold winters is another major reason for our move.

Are you sure moving to Spain will fix it for you, is the draw to Spain because of your expat friends?
Do you have a back-up plan if Spain doesn't work out?
I trust you'll do a recce first, spend 3-6 months - then decide before the big move.
If its Spain, suggest that you brush up on your Spanish.
Btw, have you considered or explored other countries & climates?

Yes, we intend to do a recce and rent at first before deciding where to settle. We did consider Mexico, but one of the reasons we want to go back to Europe is we're fed up being so far from anywhere and Mexico will have the same issues. When we came to Canada we had only been here once previously and settled OK. Spain, we have visited on many occasions, so know what we are going to. Once we leave Canada, returning here is not a option. We will be selling our home and although we have some great memories, our time here in Canada is done.

Definitely.
There's a place here advertises Fish and Chips and English style fish and chips. Neither is anything like it.
This is fish and chips

The batter is too dark and almost smooth.
