6 years in Canada - What Next!?
Tomorrow - 27 October I will have been in Canada for six years - 4.5 years in Toronto and 1.5 years in Vancouver - what a journey, seconded from the UK to Toronto and then headhunted for a role in Vancouver - now entering a new period as I complete a consulting role!
Whilst our desire was to always reach Vancouver, I have actually found more enjoyment since arriving in Washington state (which has been a pleasant surprise) and now seem to spend most of our free time in the US - for shopping, golf, entertainment, enjoying the wonderful beaches which get even better in Oregon! Still find Vancouver a desirable place to live and we have had plenty of good experiences but finding work in this city is challenging!
What next - Canada, US (sponsored) or back to the good old UK, what is the general view of the job market in metro Vancouver within the financial sector?

Congrats!
Its intgeresting to hear your comment on finding work there as I was under the impression that work challenge issue relates to the Maritimes only

Yes it is certainly tough in Vancouver - job market seems very fragmented and insular and like a closed shop - in fact my consultancy is being spent in Toronto (with a regular commute back to Vancouver - I think I have seen every movie on Air Canada now!!). I am just not sure the job market is out here and you have to be very lucky in finding the right thing.
Have most certainly enjoyed this part of the world and a beautiful part of Canada but the scenery does not pay the bills! I am not sure how things are in the Maritimes but all the jobs appear to be in Toronto, with some in Calgary but not our preferred locations to live.
Now actively looking back at work in the UK but it will be with heavy heart if we need to return. Never mind off to Vegas this weekend!
