It was 50 years ago today
in fact (day & date) Tuesday 4th April 1967, arriving at Malton airport around 3pm on a BOAC 707 that was my first ever journey on an airplane
Green as green could be, young & wet behind the ears, it was tough going in the beginning.
Despite the climate here which is getting tough on the old body as I age, I have no regrets emigrating (everyone should do it at some stage of their lives). I could not imagine how my life would have turned out had I stayed in the UK.

Congrats...does this make you the record holder?

Congratulations!
I'm sorry to hear it was tough at the beginning, but you stuck it out, and I'm glad you have no regrets.
We were 4 months behind you in leaving the UK (in August, on what was also my first flight!), but it took us another year to arrive in Canada.

Congratulations on your golden Canniversary!
Wow a BOAC 707... not many many people travelled to Spain from UK back in '67 then let alone across the Atlantic.
Glad to hear Canada has worked out for you, and that you have no regrets. I think your right about the everyone should try emigrating at least once, it certainly opens your mind, i cant believe how closed minded some of my friends and family appear to me now, and ive only been here a mere 8.

50 years! That's longer than my parents have been alive.
Good effort!

Thanks to you all for your kind words. I share longevity in Canada with other BE's that have posted their own 'Canniversary'
that will be my next post on June 1st 2017
On Sgt Pepper, indeed it was, also the same year that I watched (on Black & White TV) the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup, and to take in Canada's 100th Birthday as well as visit Expo67 in Montreal
After the hardship beginning in/through 1967, the rest of the time till now has been a piece of cake, I've really enjoyed my time here

we went to Expo 67 towards the end of August 1967 ...... we had a great 3 days there!
nope .......... we emigrated to the US first, then came up here in 1968
Why, did you have to swim?

Re: It was 50 years ago today
congratulations! I quite agree that everyone should try emigration but I know that many would wholeheartedly disagree.
