Also 30 years since Gilles Villeneuve was killed. Slightly more memorable IMO but YMMV. Ferrari had Jacques driving the car in which his father battled Arnoux.

30 years since heading to the South Atlantic 258 British lives lost, friends lost, but not forgotten, 264 veterans have taken their own lives since the campaign. Many survivors still suffer, quite often in silence.

Much more relevant is that 30 years ago this month the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was adopted. Under Trudeau's government with Chretien as the architect and Minister of Justice.
Them wos the days.

Re: 30 years about today.
I've been struggling to wring out of my addled brain the date of our first arrival in Canada, but I think it was today +/- a few in 1982. We arrived after 5 years in California (so 35 years since leaving the UK in total) across a land border from the US (Saulte St. Marie for irrelevant reasons) obviously by car and with our then 6 week old first child in the back seat.
We stayed in Toronto for about 4 years, then moved to Germany for about 8, returning in 1993 and living here for most of the year since then.
What to say?
I suppose a few points of advice:
Quickly learn to avoid Canada's Wonderland.
Never watch Iced Hockey.
Never buy a Ham and Swiss with Honey & Mustard dressing from Timmies.
Only drink Canadian lager when necessary.
Avoid sweet potato fries.
Celebrate the years of Trudeau and his successors.
Lament the ludicrous destructive fools currently in the federal government.
Leave before you retire.
HTH.

Separately the words are as you suggest, however as you know when combined in the language of your destination country.............

Ken Livingstone's tax affairs involving the Cayman Islands are an illuminating example of socialist principles.

Re: 30 years about today.
Sorry to hear about the dog. I'm afraid that I'll be in the same position sooner rather than later. My 13 yr old border collie is slowing down dramatically with semi-crippling arthritis. Ah well, it was good while it lasted (like Canada).

Are you taking the dog with you to France Novo? When are you planning to arrive more fully? Will you 'miss' Canada, as a place or just your friends and famiily left behind? You will have to pay considerably more for Marmite in France than I belive you pay in Canada!
