Woohoo the Citizenship oath is staying.
Well the Supreme Court of Canada is not going to hear the court challenge about having to swear to the Queen (Liz) when taking the citizenship oath.
The oath was being challenged by 3 x permanent residents a Jamaican Rastafarian (religious reasons), an Israeli (entrenched privilege he opposes) and of course the Irish Republican who has been in Canada for 51 years.
Oath of allegiance to Queen stays as requirement to obtain citizenship - Politics - CBC News
As long as Liz is the Head of State for Canada then suck it up. Bloody foreigners

I think the Irish guy was somewhat confused as he thought he could use various swear words like ****, *****, **** etc etc when swearing the oath

I cant see myself every swearing allegiance to anyone, to be honest. What a despicable concept.

"Please leave" becomes "out the f**k" for example.

How about they extend it to all Canadian Citizens when they reach the age of 21. Swear allegiance to the queen or lose the rights that come with citizenship. Begin with a pilot exercise in one province, say Quebec.

Re: Woohoo the Citizenship oath is staying.
It makes sense while the British monarch is Head of State but, eventually, the British monarch will be removed as Head of State of Canada (and other countries like Australia). With more diverse immigration, the concept is becoming less and less relevant to more and more people. It's just a matter of time.

I suppose I could google, but do you know if new UK citizens getting naturalized even have to do it? I doubt it.

I think you do, if you swear the oath.

Two of the three people objected on religious grounds.
I suspect nobody MADE them move to Canada, did they...
See also 'covering face at Citizenship Ceremony'.
The same issue exists in Britain. People want to move there but then object to British customs...
I object to lamb being slaughtered Halal, but we all have to put up with that, or we choose not to eat it. They could choose not to live in Canada, or they could put up with the Canadian customs...
