Renting is really hard here in that there aren't many available. I am in the Greater Victoria area and I think the last vacancy rate I heard was 0.5%. If you have any fur babies then it is even harder! You might get a sublet for a short period to help you look around areas. We rented here for 5 years but should have bought much earlier. House prices have increased 18% over the last year alone.
We did buy in May but really should have when we arrived. Houses then for our needs were around 600k now a million plus. Scary!

I would posit that most housing “on” or near a sea/ocean costs considerably more in most parts of the so-called civilized world. Even housing “on”a lake in Canada is usually more expensive. People like water.

We arrived 18 months ago to Comox Valley and bought in November. Arriving in February might mean you could rent an Airbnb for a couple of months as holiday letting is quiet until later in the year. Even finding a rental will be a lot easier once you are on the ground. If you’re going to be anywhere nearby I will help if I can.
