We fly tomorrow for our recce. Anyone recomend any good restuarants / cafes?
Hi guys,
Can't believe our trip is finally here. We booked back in Jan! Got some really interesting meet and greets planned so fingers crossed
We are going to Halifax NS, Monston, St John and Fredericton NB and Charlottetown PEI. Can anyone recommend any restaurants / eateries? My other half can't have gluten by the way but loves a burger!

There are a lot of nice places but springing to mind right now:
Halifax - Good restaurant on Morris Street in Halifax that will make gluten free pizza that you can rely on as gluten free (and delicious) called Morris East. On Morris Street there is also Talay Thai which is very good.
On the harbour front check out The Bicycle Thief (can be pricey though) and if you like sushi and/or steak "The Hamachi house" on the harbour front has the best sushi (havent tried their steak).
Stayners - near the ferry terminal has a great pan fried haddock, amongst other things, and live music.
For THE BEST burgers in town, try Darrells Restaurant, looks a little "hole in the wall" but their burgers win prizes.
Moncton - there is a very good Keg there (better than Halifax IMO), and a really fantastic Italian opp the Keg, called Gusto Italian Bar and Grill, I really also like Catch 22. If you are after a sandwich theres a little artisan place that makes incredibly good food called Clementine Cafe and Deli.

In Halifax I liked the Five Fishermen and the Coastal Café. I wouldn't want to go to the east coast with food allergies/affectations though, better Vancouver for that.

Thanks
There are loads on trip advisor. Spoilt for choice but at least we go hungry!
Normally, if a restaurant doesn't do anything specifically gluten free my other half can still get a steak or whatever. He's happy with a slab of meat any day, but between bread and with cheese & bacon he's at his happiest he he

Lots of places on the Boardwalk in halifax.
PEI has a few nice places just on the Harbour front and a busy fish restaurant that looks like a corner store just on the road behind
Fredricton sucks

That said, if you try a restaurant and recommend it, a mention on this thread over the next two weeks would be appreciated so that we can take a look in advance of the trip.
Cheers

Point of clarification / pedantry..
Saint John is in New Brunswick. St. John's is in Newfoundland. St John is in neither. I'm guessing you mean Saint John. In the unlikely case it is St John's I can provide restaurant recommendations.
True story. A colleague from Singapore travelled to our offices here in St John's. Except she didn't. She arrived in the dead of winter in Saint John & it was only when the cab driver couldn't find the hotel she'd booked that the mistake was realised.

Very different (and French) Les Brumes du Coude in a building called The Aberdeen Centre. Don't be put off by outside appearance.

Decent selection on Main St. Tide and Boar pub but a bit different. The Pump House just off Main St, more typical pub food...good burgers, steak sandwiches.

Lots of good places to eat in Halifax.
There are some funky restaurants on Argyle Street, including a couple of bistros, burger joints etc. That's where the Economy Shoe Shop cafe/restaurant is, but there's a whole row of places to eat.
Le Bistro by Liz was EXCELLENT when we went there last December .. 1333 South Park Street, Halifax. Not sure about special gluten-free meals, but they had no problem with my lactose-intolerance.
Two If By The Sea near the ferry terminal in Dartmouth is another funky place. Coffee and Tea Shop plus food.
The Celtic Corner 69 Alderney Drive is just across the street from the ferry terminal in Dartmouth, and is a good place for pub type food
Taking the ferry across the harbour from Halifax to Dartmouth and back is an interesting trip to do, some lovely views of Halifax, and not very expensive.
If you are driving to Moncton, divert to Halls Harbour ........ see the incredible differences between low and high tide, and think about having really fresh lobster at the Lobster Pound there.

As Magnumpi says Fredericton generally sucks...but...Wolastoq Wharf on Main Street on the North Side is not a bad fish and seafood place or, the Palate is OK and tries to be seasonal and Isaac's way in a beautiful old court house building is very popular and healthy both these restaurants are on Queen Street - the main street through downtown. All these restaurants have gluten free options.
We have our Harvest Jazz and Blues festival starting on Wednesday so you might catch some.
Wherever you go and whatever you do have a really great time

Well we're in Canada! Landed in NS yesterday and heading to PEI Thursday then off to NB at the weekend.
Had a cracking burger at 2 Doors Down in Halifax last night. Particularly good if you want a gluten free burger.
If anyone is around in either Charlottetown, Saint John, Fredericton or Moncton and has any free time before next Saturday we'd love to meet up, have a coffee and a natter!
Looking forward to trying out a few more of these recommendations x
