Default A vacation in Montreal

Hey guys

So I am planning a surprise trip to Montreal for my family. I have been there once on a short business trip and I stayed in the downtown area which was nice. But I heard there's much more to Montreal than its downtown. I will turn to Google to search things to do while we are there (any pointers would be highly welcomed though ). But the first place to start would be to decide which areas are best to stay that give you easy access to all the good stuff (either by subway or car, doesn't mater) and is also good value for money. Any help from local BEs from Montreal or those of you who have travelled there would be highly appreciated. Cheers.

From personal experience, I would highly recommend the Vieux Port area of Montreal. Nice old buildings and narrow streets.

Stay at Auberge du Vieux-Port: Auberge du Vieux-Port

Get great entertainment at Le 2 Pierrot (if you like drinks, party atmosphere, Quebec live folk music without being too age inappropriate). French / Quebec folk singing and drinking. Get there early and queue (say 20:00) but only open Friday and Saturdays: 2 Pierrots - Accueil - Amène ta gang et viens lâcher ton fou !

Eat pretty much anywhere along the Rue St Paul one street back from the hotel, loads of restaurants and bars.

The Plateau and Mile End is an area a short stroll north of downtown and much more interesting than downtown. Think small restaurants, cafes, patisseries, lounges, galleries, and boutiques.
