Default UK question

Would anyone kindly answer the following questions:

I'm 59 years old. My wife is 52. Under the purposed new UK pension rules I'll receive a (non indexed linked) full pension.

Question: If I die before 65, would my wife receive a bereavement pension from the UK? I've done a search and can't find a clear answer.

We are also thinking about back paying 6 years then continuing yearly payments for my wife. She has 11 years. Any comments on where this is worth doing?

Best wishes too all

Hi there! Fairly certain she will if you have paid full NI contributions ... check out this leaflet it has some good information for you. If the link doesn't work do a search for Form SA20 Social security agreement between the UK and Canada on the DWP website.

Thanks for the quick reply Jingle. Dianne has only paid in 11 years . I'm paid up. I'll look at those links.

If you'd rather talk to someone this is the DWP overseas tel no. 01912187777.

If you are able to dial 0845 numbers you could call pension forecasting on 0845 300 168

The pension service is a good website, but living outside the UK you won't be able to get a forecast online, nor will any men born on or after 06.04.1945 or women born on or after 06.04.1950 because of the pension reform. They need to update all their computers, but apparently that should be resolved by the end of the summer.

Hope that helps!
