I think you're being a bit precious. Nursery/reception/kindergarten...whatever they have done at this level will be dwarfed by the six years of primary/elementary. In short, you'll probably find the Canadian system gets off to a slower start than the UK, but the real differences in systems do not start until secondary.
) and I realize that not much of what's gone before, has had much of a bearing on where he is academically now. Socially though, having parents who were generally in sync and supportive and a mother who tried her best to hide her anxiety about his efforts, I think did. It comes with the territory...most parent worry, I think it's a default setting

If the pre-kindy thing worries you, there are private pre-school options available. Our youngest went to a Montessori for a year as we were busy working and she'd already started school in the UK system before we moved here.
