Default Tax - paper filing ! Help!

When are paper tax returns due? If they are sent by April 30 is this sufficient??

Also, can you use tax software and then print the forms out - will Studio tax or Turbo Tax allow this?

Help!

What's wrong with using the software and submitting electronically?

I did last year. I used Turbotax.

And I got a tax rebate (I had only worked for about the last 7-8 weeks of the tax year, as I started work on 4th November 2013).

Has something changed this year?

Their website says you can file electronically as a Newcomer:

April 30th.

I am pretty sure if it's mailed by that date, your okay, but make sure to go inside the post office to have them stamp it so there is proof of mailing on it. (wise to pay for proof of mailing if mailing close to the filing deadline to provide you did send it on time.)

If you don't owe and getting a refund, being late isn''t much of an issue as they don't penalize you for being late when they owe you money.

I think the situation is that you can't get a login to the CRA website UNTIL you have filed your first year's Tax Return, but that doesn't mean you can't file electronically using software that can use Netfile.

I don't THINK we printed them out from Turbotax and sent them by post....

it used to be that you had to mail before midnight on April 30th

and it used to be that the Main Post Office in downtown Vancouver was open until 10 pm ................ so there would be this crush of people rushing down there to get in before 10 om and mail off their tax returns.

Always made for a story in the next day's papers.

I've been Googling to see if I can find anything about a time by which the papers have to be filed

all I found was that "on or before"

This site has a Contact Us button at the bottom of the page ............... you could try that for "real" information .....

I used Turbotax last year - our first year filing - and was also not allowed to file with Netfile. I was told it was not possible for your first year filing. From what I remember paper returns are due the same day electronic ones are. We didn't have any problems doing it, it just meant printing and sending a lot of bits of paper!

It has to be postmarked April 30, so don't miss the last post! If you have any self employment income, the filing deadline is June 15. Tax payments are still due by April 30 for employees and self employed. After April 30 employees will pay tax and penalties for late filing, self employed just pay interest up to June 15. To be sure, take it into the post office by hand and ask them to postmark it while you are there, then you know you are on time.

If you don't owe any tax, the deadline is not a big deal, however leave it too late and it could affect other payments you are due, such as CCTB, MSP premium assistance, Pharmacare (in BC) etc.

Yes, I completed everything in Turbotax and then at the end, when it said I couldn't file with Netfile, it gave me instructions on printing it all out

Ok, I'm in a conundrum. How do you deal with taxes if your spouse is a England Resident, you're here and your incomes are completely separate? Has anyone had to pay taxes on your spouse's income abroad? What are the legal implications of not reporting the income? I share absolutely no expenses with my husband and find it ridiculous that I have to submit his income statements to the Canadian Government!

Someone help!

You don't have to. All you need is to put his net income on your tax return. TBH you don't even need to be accurate as long as you make his income sufficient so that you are not entitled to any means tested benefits.

The other option you have is to show your married status as separated.

Can someone confirm the correct address to mail a first-time tax return to? The CRA web pages are a bit confusing, but one section seems to imply that I must send my return to:

International tax and non-resident enquiries
Office address:

2204 Walkley Road
Ottawa ON K1A 1A8
CANADA

Is this right?
