Stuff for Kids in Burlington, ON
Hi
We are moving to Burlington area in mid-Jan, (staying in Burlington suites for first 6 weeks).
Would be very grateful if anyone could tell me what is on for kids, I have a 4 year old and a baby (will be nearly 7 months). Stuff within walking distance around the downtown would be best as I am not sure when our car is arriving.
Is there a main library or rec centre in Downtown?
Our accomm is on Ontario Street near the Mapleview Centre..
Thanks in advance, I need all the help I can get to keep these two amused on a limited budget in the middle of winter!!

Hello Vancitymum, I'm fairly new here too so if you fancy a cuppa and a chat when you get here, I am literally around the corner from you.
The lakeshore is a nice place to take the kiddiwinks...a grassed area with a designated soft climbing area which seems very popular with mums and their brood, so you'll not be short of people to chat to there. Spencers restaurant has a small shallow pool outside, which although in the summer months is not used for swimming (I think it's just for show but I've seen people sail their toy boats on it) in the winter they turn it into an ice rink, which is lovely.
Also along the lakeshore, but on the roadside, is the Burlington Arts Centre www.thebac.ca and I believe they do workshops for kids, so you and your baby could have a sit down and a drink while the four year old gets messy.
Just a couple of suggestions for you. I don't have small kids (mine's a hulking teen chap) but I'll keep my peepers open for any kid friendly winter activities for you

ROCK (Reach Out Centre for Kids) does a bunch of programs for babies and young children. There are drop-in sessions but many require registration. Some are free and some you have to pay for. The free ones tend to be oversubscribed so they're run on a lottery system. You apply and see whether you get in. Our little one (9 months now) loved Mother Goose, Baby Picasso, and Baby Bach.
There's also Momstown Burlington who always seem to be organizing activities. There's a small membership fee for that although I think they'll let you try it out for free before you commit.
