I thought about a crude way to do it using 12V "battery source" in the middle (which itself could be powered from a 60Hz supply, i.e. something from Canadian Tire) and a 50Hz 230V inverter imported from the UK, for low-amp stuff. Never bothered trying to do that in the end.
