Default Rental Agencies in Toronto

Hi,

Are there any recommendations for rental agencies in Toronto? Or ones to avoid?
We're visiting Toronto next week, and looking to live there for a year or two from September 2017. My wife will be working at York University, so we're interested in either North York, especially Lancing, Willowdale and Newtonbrook, or Missiasauga, especially Oakville.

Thanks

Can't vouch for any agencies, but the website Padmapper (https://www.padmapper.com/) has a pretty comprehensive list of rental units.

Check your commute times. I would not want to drive between Oakville and York University on a daily basis. Unless you are prepared to pay for the 407. Agree padmapper is a good site, also gottarent and viewit are options. Depending on your price point you can get rentals through estate agents (realtors here).

Thanks for the advice. Padmapper is really easy to use.

We'll check the commute, but it will only be 2 or 3 days a week, and off-peak, and probably by public transport.

Price point is around $2000 - $2500. Is it worth talking to realtors at that point, or is it all online now?

Look at realtor.ca see what you find on there and compare with the other sites mentioned above. Your price point does get you into the range for realtor listed properties, but any listed now are likely to be looking for tenants to be in long before September. The notice period for tenant vacating is 60 days so even if tenant has just given notice and property just listed then they will be looking for mid/end July occupancy.

I think public transport might be something of a challenge for that trip, but I have never attempted it so am prepared to be corrected.

Commute time from Oakville to Union Station on Lakeshore West line would be around 45 minutes for an all stops train - which off peak would be - If you were to take an express - rush hour only - then it's around 33 minutes.

Not sure how you get to York U from Union, and it might not be the best option.

You could play around with https://www.triplinx.ca and see what options you get. I did a very quick lookup and a GO Bus from Oakville to York U (if I got the right place), was about an hour and a half journey time each way
