Plumber or Carpenter in the GTA
Between the two trades:
Which is more in demand?
Which is higher paid?
Which would you choose as a secure career?

[QUOTE=Statham2016;12455369]Between the two trades:
Depends where and when. Changes as the economic climate changes.
Depends how good you are, where you are and in what sector you work.
A trade in the oil patch will likley do better than one in the jobing home reno business. When construction is booming all do well, when it is crashing, neither do so well.
No career is secure. Trade job security depends where you are located, what you do there, how you get on with the boss and particularly how good you are at it. The mediocre ones and the belligerent ones usually get let go first.
If you are thinking of training for a trade and using that to immigrate. To challenge the inter provincial exam one would need 9000 hours of provable work experience (about 5 years). School time is not counted. A lot can change in an industry in 5 years.
Choose a trade because it interests you and you are good at. If you are good at both and both interest you I would be going with plumbing.
If you are not in Canada, you cannot train in a trade in Canada without PR or being a Canadian citizen.

Re: Plumber or Carpenter in the GTA
In truth, I kind of know the answers to my own original questions. i.e. Plumbers in general can earn slightly higher, it is more of a recession proof trade etc.
I suppose I was more looking for in direct help in making a decision.
I have been given the opportunity to retrain in both. A full-time apprenticeship with a plumbing company and a 'start' with a Carpenter as an assistant which would lead to formal training/apprentice.
At my age and after starting again here in the gta following emigrating from the uk, I know this is both a decent opportunity to gain some sort of job security in the long term, and I also acknowledge it may be my last chance to do so.
I actually enjoy working with wood, and if paying bills was no object that is what I would prefer to do. I'm just a little uncertain if there is enough of a decent wage and custom style carpentry work to survive in this highly costly place to live.
I just cant decide on which route to take.
