Hello all,
I had a canadian PR in 1996,worked there for a couple of months and went back to my home country. I lost my PR.
I want to come back to canada now. Before applying again as fresh applicant, can i just try applying for a Returning Resident Permit,if I dont get it, I can go for a fresh application.
Please Advice.
Thanks

Yes, you can try but it is highly unlikely that RRP will be granted as you've been
out of Canada for 5+ years without maintaining any substantial ties to the country.
You have clearly abandoned Canada as a place of permanent residence and (depending
from what else you did) most likely ceased to be a Canadian PR. You may always try
new PR application if you qualify under new rules.

Well, you can try that if you wish. Depending on the circumstances you = may or may
not get one. I would suspect that applying for RRP outside = Canada at this time
would result in a refusal.=20
You can contact us directly for more information if you wish.
