Out of Canada for more than 183 days?

On May this year my husband and I landed in Canada for ten days and then went back Tokyo again, Now I have landed in Vancouver again, but my husband cannot land in Canada because of his project which will be finished on January next year. Most persons told me that at that time the immigration officer will let him in. Is it true? Thank you for your help
