Is the bit that's tax free in the UK tax free in Canada?

On a slight tangent ....I wonder if they'll ever give a lump sum option for the state pension?! Hope so!

Edited to add: if you take a lump sum it is added to your taxable income in Canada but you can split it with your OH which might reduce the tax hit a bit.
