Kind of lonely in Toronto

Re: Kind of lonely in Toronto
I arranged one once by waterfront/convention centre.
Didn't go very well as a lot of people army based downtown.
I'm more then happy to travel a bit further a field if it gets more people coming along

Re: Kind of lonely in Toronto
I organised a few for the Burlington / Hamilton crowd, we had a reasonable turn out until we arranged for one in Hamilton, lol... then it sort of died a death after that.
Shame really, I enjoyed them.

Re: Kind of lonely in Toronto
It just needs people to do it, and to stick with it if one or two end up being a bit of a bust. We've had some meetups with only 5-6 people, and we've had others with 15. In fact, Shirtback organized one for a weekend where she would be in Toronto, and me and Mr Schnooks were the only ones who could make it. So we had a lovely evening just the 3 of us.
It just takes someone to take the initiative to pick a date, pick a location, and try to drum up a few people to get together. And then make it semi-regular. Someone steps up to organize a Toronto one every 3-4ish months, so 3-4 per year.

Tip from planning these: Nail down a date and a location as soon as you can. We have long since stopped the "what date works for people" because it just ends up with everyone waffling and no one making a decision. So now whoever is organizing it just picks a date and runs with it. So I suggest picking a date and a location pretty swiftly; one of the mods can then edit the thread subject with the info once you have it.
Great to see that the Vancouver lot seem to have got the ball rolling .

Yeah the Vancouver thread certainly seems to have taken off.
However we have also hijacked the OP's thread a bit, haha. Sorry, OP! Hoping to see you out next month, and in the meantime there are tons of suggestions here. I would agree with the others about moving, though - you probably should situate yourself somewhere that's a bit more happening! My brother lives in Queen West, close to Trinity Bellwoods Park, and LOVES it around there, he says it's so vibrant, lots of restaurants and pubs, always something happening. He's 27 and single, so very much into the social scene.
If you want, PM me your contact info and I'll put you in touch with my brother and his friends.

Re: Kind of lonely in Toronto
Hello everyone
So me and my girlfriend moved here 3 months ago not sure if it will be a permanent thing yet we will definately be here for a couple of years, we both have full time jobs, and we moved here from the UK (Worcestershire area) which was fairly green and also close to major cities like Birmingham.
Anyway I am enjoying my job much more relaxed than UK employers, so is my girlfriend. We finally seemed to be settling down abit after all of the upheaval of moving. We moved in October and so far have only seen this miserable winter which is depressing.
Reaching out to any new expat couples or individuals in Toronto to meet up with for coffee. We are looking to make friends and socialise. Living in a condo can be so tedious. We live in Etobicoke.
We are 22 and 23. Please get in touch!!!!

Hi, 3 months to settle into life and be happy is quite soon so what you are feeling is totally normal. I have also moved from the midlands and am in the GTA. What hobbies do you like to do? What career fields are you and your partner in?

Friday 10 Feb.
The Scotland Yard Pub - Scotland Yard | Scotland Yard
I don't think it's in the meet up calendar yet, but go to the Toronto Drinks thread in the Maple Leaf Forum (on BE) and you'll be able to get the details.

It's in the calendar now, but following on the thread is the best way.
