Ideas for places to live near to Canada Olympic Park, Calgary?
Hi, thanks in advance for ideas.
We are looking at moving to Calgary, we will be renting and looking for a safe, family area with good schools. My son will be skiing regularly at the Olympic Park and would be nice to be as close as possible. Any suggestions please?
Many thanks

Why will he be skiing on a regular basis at COP? Is he into half pipe, extreme jumping type of skiing? If not, there is little to keep good skiers skiing at COP, although it is great for beginners.

What AC said.
<baffled>
There are much nicer parts of Calgary, if that's where you want to be... COP is fine, but... Year round living for six months of rec use? Are you sure he isn't going to get bored and suggest you drive to the mountains?
Some v nice places up on the hill, mind.

I don't agree actually, accessing the COP from the south is a royal PITA, coming up Sarcee Trail for example. The traffic can be horrendous.
I'd stick with the NW, there are endless residential communities in the NW.
Also easier to access the Trans-Canada if he does want to go up into the mountains.

Agree with Steve. Plenty of nice areas near COP in the NW. Easy access to mountains and to downtown. Way fewer people live in NW than down south; so traffic is much better.

Well many of the main residential areas are in the NW, it is a fairly crowded area but trying to get up Sarcee Trail is a nightmare around rush hour.

I like the NW, in fact I like all of Calgary. I guess I simply wouldn't base where I wanted to live on its proximity to COP unless I was a Shaun White wannabe and needed lightening fast access to COP.
I live almost as far as it is possible to live, within the City, from COP. I never really had any difficulty in making my kids' skiing lessons in the evenings within a reasonable time.

COP can also be accessed from the top of the hill via 85t St. SW. Have a look at the communities west of Sarcee Trail SW and east of 85th St SW.; lots of very nice communities there.
We lived in Stathcona Park, my kids did gymnastics at COP so we were up there a couple of evenings a week ( we also learned to ski there). As well as easy access to COP there are good local shops, good schools, an active community association and easy access to downtown via Bow Trail or 17th ave and to Highway 1 for getting to the mountains.
Patterson and Coach Hill are also nice, established communities. Chiristie Park will benefit from the LRT extension. If you prefer newer areas then there's Aspen and West Springs.
Going as far south as Discovery Ridge will still give you easy access to COP but you'd also have the benefit of the lovely Weaslehead Park on your doorstep.

Hi Lisa and welcome to the forum.
You don't necessarily need to live that close to COP. As others have said it is easily accessed from the NW too.
I used to live in Springbank which was about five minutes drive from COP(down 85th and 17th ave). Its a bit pricey that side. You could live in Cougar ridge (which is right next door to COP,) The Wentworth area, Aspen and West Spings.
But COP can be easily accessed and if your son is a good skier, he may want to head to the mountains instead.
