Health insurance on tourist visas
hi, apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. We are moving to Canada this summer, initially for a year, under tourist visas for the adults and student visas for the children. Any advice on what we should do for health insurance as we will not be covered by state healthcare and we are not going to be employed? Do we get travel insurance from a UK company for a year or do Canadian insurance companies offer something suitable?
Thanks

When we looked for a relative, we found that UK travel medical includes repatriation when, the coverage level was higher and included cancellation, baggage etc. When purchased in Canada it had more limited coverage and medical only with no repatriation cover to the UK.
If you want to talk to a broker in Canada to find out coverage and polices in Canada try these guys https://www.hubinternational.com/en-CA/
You already know you can come to Canada for a year?

I was referring to MSP Medical Services Plan for which we are not eligible as we will not have permanent visas.
Our children have been accepted for student visas and we will come into the country on tourist visas.
Thanks for the info and link

Isn't 6 months the maximum time you can stay on a tourist visa?

Not if documented at a POE. I have issued visitor records for 4 years as they were accompanying a student but on visitor status.
A normal visitor is up to 6 months ie stamp in passport. Over 6 months it SHOULD be documented on a visitor record.

For the OP re health insurance in Ontario students have to gave insurance through their college or university and that insurance allows you to add a spouse and or dependants. Maybe the province to which you are headed has similar stuff?
