Health Insurance
Hi everyone, I am also in the same situation, landing in MTL end of November and then moving permanently to Ottawa.
I've just been told that Canadasure is not recognised in Canada?! That can't be true can it?
I am desperately looking for an insurance to cover us all me (returning canadian), my 15 month old daugther and my partner (Britisth)
If anyone has any advise I'd appreciated!
Solveig

Re: Immigration & health insurance
Green,
I went with Cheap Travel Insurance | Backpacker Travel Insurance - DUInsure
Good price, with comprehensive cover for the 1st three months. My OHIP coverage kicks in December, just before my private cover expires.

My husband and I both used CanadaSure.
I came back to Canada as a returning Canadian, my husband came as a PR, originally British.
CanadaSure not being recognized in Canada is definitely NOT accurate.

Did you even look at Canadasure's website?
Go to CanadaSure - specialist immigration, travel and health insurance while visiting Canada and read the first paragraph on their homepage!

Ho I have looked at it of course, but seeing that another insurance company affirmed to me that canadasure was not recognised I really wondered - hence I asked here.
But I did have the feeling that it quite probably was untrue but then how can another insurance company just say something like this and in an email as well?! (Maybe I am incredibly naive!)

Re: Health Insurance
Well, CanadaSure is easily the most used insurance policy for those coming to Canada nad needing coverage here, so either we are all numpties, or someone is telling porky pies.

Re: Health Insurance
I'd go with the second option of course, but am amazed that another company would do something like this.
I might report them to Canadasure then - I find this shocking...

Blue cross may not have understood what you were looking for. Blue Cross is a type of supplementary insurance that Canadians get for things that our Health care system does not cover. It is only available to people who have provincial health care. So they may have thought you were looking for their supplementary insurance and were trying to tell you that CanadaSure is not one that they would recognize.

Re: Health Insurance
Well..... so the latest is that Canadasure replied that they could not provide any evidence that they were a recognised company in Canada...
?! I don't even know what this mean pragmatically - which impact does this have on users?
Anyway I've asked them this question let's see what they say. So Strange...

you move here
you need medical treatment
they pay if you are covered.
all you need is a copy of the policy to check for exclusions. I don't understand what "recognised in Canada" means to you.
You'll have to pay then they reimburse.
the Canadian hospital doesn't care what company is going to repay you

To clarify, this was brought up at first with a competing insurance company - I first wanted to clarify two things 1) if it was truth or not and 2) what implications does it have on the user (as stated in my previous message).
I think it's important for a user to understand what implications for this have or not e.g. does it undermine in any way the health cover provided? And if not - why should it then be brought to my attention by another insurance company?
So at this point, I'd like to have the second point clarified above.

Canadasure will cover you while in Canada.
it is specifically designed for people who are emigrating to Canada
the clue might even be in their name.
it is in the FAQ
CanadaSure - Frequently Asked Questions
they clearly cover you in Canada
I honestly understand what "implications" you are talking about. i suspect they don't either which is why they can't answer your question.
it is nonsensical
