Has anyone sat the MCCEE?
Just wondering if anyone out there has sat the MCCEE ( Medical council of Canada evaluating exam)? This is a requirement for my husband to work over there and he needs to pass it in May or he'll have to sit it again in September. It's also very expensive so we'd prefer him to pass it first time.......no pressure!!!
My question is does anyone recommend a particular website where you can see past papers? Or any study aids which are geared to this exam? I've been searching but so far can only see websites which you have to subscribe to and I'm not sure whether it's trustworthy

Re: Has anyone sat the MCCEE?
It's quite complicated. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada would probably exempt him from the MCCEE however, they have a 6-8 month backlog at the moment and charge £3150 just to check his credentials. As he has a job offer, the quickest way to go is through RCPS of BC since he's halfway through the process with them anyway. They are the ones who have said he is eligible for a licence to practice IF he just provides a bit more info on his training back in the 90's!!! They would then still require him to do the MCCEE exam.
We have looked at some practice questions but we thought he wouldn't have to do it so never took it any further.
The exam is fairly OK for a GP as it covers lots of different specialties but for someone who has done obstetrics and gynaecology since his house officer jobs ( 19 years ago!) it is quite tricky. It covers drugs and side effects which he doesn't use in obs and gyn ( amongst other things) so it's not straightforward. That's why I think, the RCPS Canada exempt overseas specialists once their training has been recognised - they realise the exam covers areas which those doctors wouldn't necessarily be familiar with anymore.
So.....since his job offer is for BC and he's closer to getting a licence to practice there it looks like he'll have to do this exam. Just to cover all bases though he will apply to the RCPS Canada also because he has to sit the obs and gyn exam within a year if taking up the job anyway. A lot of expense coming our way! Beans on toast tonight......

Minniemouse78 , MCCEE, is a fairly easy exam, in my opinion. I took it in 2013, canada qbank is your friend. I only did questions the whole qbank 2-3 times , didnt do any theory and got a good score. If your husband is a GP I think it should be fairly easy. Concentrate on specialities he has been out of touch with likes of Psychiatry, paeds, obg etc (just assuming) . any more info pm me. Nae bother...... fellow Glaswegian

Re: Has anyone sat the MCCEE?
Hi badapple, thanks for the info!
I'm actually the GP and he's the OBGYN. I'm going to sort out my registration too when we get everything sorted for him- he has a job offer so we're trying to get things moving now. We found canada bank like you said and am pleased to hear that you found it very useful-he's going to subscribe to that tomorrow. A quick look at the questions show the exam is very GP orientated so a bit of 'revision' is required for him!
Are you in Canada now? If so, whereabouts? Are you a GP? Will PM you!

Re: Has anyone sat the MCCEE?
It will be a bit difficult for a non GP , sorry. We used Q Bank lots but often did it together as it used to have some incorrect answers, but usually one of us would spot it!!.
It is better now I think- even the CPSBC has subscribed to it so members can use Q Bank. I would do it together so you can give input.
For more depth, we also used USMLE MCQ books, they were quite advanced for the MCCEE but never the less useful in areas where your OH may be lacking.
I don't know if they still advise Toronto Notes but that book is huge and a waste of money.
I would also do the MCCQE 1 questions to add some depth, although this would cost more.
As above, MCCEE is easy for a UK trained GP, but I think passable for a specialist with some work. There are plenty of UK trained specialists here ( and South African who have very similar training) , they must pass somehow! Being given permission to skip it seems a recent thing.

I am a Psychiatrist, have applied to PNPont through my employers due to general problems with lmo. Mccee is easily passable if you practice q bank questions. I found it very useful , take your own notes when doing questions. I can say with certainaity that if u do canada. Qbank 2-3 times there is every chance that u will sail through it.
Ps- I am not related to qbank in anyway.

Re: Has anyone sat the MCCEE?
Hi All,
Was wondering if someone can advise/help please.
I am a British Specialist Psychiatrist who is looking for opportunities in Canada; I do not currently have CCT/CCST and was wondering if either are a prerequisite to working or obtaining a license in Canada (in any province).
Thanks in advance,
AK

Re: Has anyone sat the MCCEE?
hi Akramshik70
I don't know much about psychiatrist work in canada and its process/requirment. but i suggest to choose which province you want to go then approach the college an enquire about the requirement. each province has its own rules and requirements.
if you are in uk you can go to BMJ career fair and there is usually from 3 provinces of BC/Alberto/Sachachetwan colleges - comes to attract uk trained doctors.
Another source of finding info is emailing the recruitment agency set up by gov to help IMG in going through the process. I know of Ontario province such agency called health force ontario.
good luck!

Segs is a psychiatrist on this forum and arrived this year in Ontario. I haven't kept up with her and admittedly I'm not sure if she is still a member but you could try emailing her.

Hi Akramshik70. I am a psychiatrist who just went through the process. I started in February with a site visit after a chat on the phone and I am now in Alberta waiting to start work next week. I do have a CCT though but my colleague back home is currently going through the process without a CCT but with MRCPsych positive. Feel free to message me if you like. Oh and Minniemouse, even as a Psychiatrist I found MCCEE a doddle with the help of Qbank.
Cheers all!
