What's more the poor sod you sell it to has to pay the tax again. I always thought that was a criminal ripoff in Ontario (I assume elsewhere in Canada to?)

Also as DBD said you don't really need winter tyres in Toronto. I usually go with decent high end all weather tyres for year round.
I never had winter tyres on any vehicle I owned in Toronto and in 26 years of driving there never had an accident or got stuck in snow. If you drive carefully, winter tyres are a waste of money (in the GTA).

Certainly true here in the Far East. Tax upon tax on any car, boat, rv, atv, snowmobile etc. It's a bloody rip off I tells ya.

I knows. Should we appeal to the Hague?

Well my experience is totally different from yours, Subarus are very reliable, you're the first person I've come across who has thought otherwise. I rented a GLK once, the problem I had with it as I recall was the wipers because the windshield is so big they just didn't work fast enough in Vancouver.

Subaru Forester or Outback. You won't be quite as worried about scratches as you would be in a Merc.

My advice is to buy in the smallest town you can bother getting to, I find you get better deals.

Not just what I think, it's my experience. 3 Subarus owned here (2x Impreza, 1xForester), 3 blown engines under 10,000kms from new. One got recalled and replaced, the others had replacement engines fitted. Subaru Canada's customer service was appalling in each instance.

And which are crappy in my Forester.

The other car we looked at was a CRV, which has many people online complaining about vibrations so bad they had to trade it on on a different car. Given the choice between that or voice recognition that can't recognize my voice, I know which would actually have a real impact on me every day.

You sold it because of the VW dieselgate?

We've had a Liberty and we have had older Cherokee s (the boxey ones) as well as a newer cherokee, all been ok, in respect to my prior comment , OH has just switched his towncar to a Navigator, due to the towncar being rear wheel drive, he didnt want to slide to work this winter.

Jeep is like LandRover. They don't do reliable.

I had a couple of Liberties (Cherokee in UK) here from 2004-2008. I had many, many suspension and break problems, fortunately sorted under warranty. I would not buy a used Liberty personally.

If you want a bland, brick like device with four wheel drive that's cheap to buy and operate get an Escape. Exciting, no, sensible, well maybe, a FWD car would likely do the job.

But Jeremy Clarkson thinks that they are not good in challenging terrains and can get stuck very easily even with their FWD system.

That would be one of the last Fords my OH would buy, the fact we've never had one speaks volumes to me, we haven't had an Edge either but I think that's because you can get decent second hand Lincolns for better prices.
