Default Driving in BC

Hi,

Just wondering what me and the husband have to do to be able to drive in Canada. (BC)

We both hold full UK Licences and have both been driving over 10 years.

What do we do now? Do we have to sit tests?

Thanks

And even though it's not required, this page might also be useful for learning some of the BC road signs and BC specific road rules, some of which differ from the UK: Learn to Drive Smart

Forget how to drive.

Because most Canadians seem to have done.

This rather pre-supposes they learned in the first place!

indeed...

having sat the motorbike test here, it's insanely easy...

they're even taught to sit in the middle lane on the highway because "it's safer"

I drive 9 hours a day in Vancouver. It's awful.

Amazing, I managed not to use a swear word.

Apart from Lychee's very helpful posts, I tend to agree with all the other posters unfortunately! Bus drivers seem to speed like mad in their lanes too, it's insane.

Finally driven for the first time from downtown to Squamish and whistler. The highway drive was fantastic, downtown was a nightmare mostly because of pedestrians walking across the road when they shouldn't be

Wait until winter, that's when the real fun starts in Vancouver....

Sea to Sky can be a mess in the winter as well, not a fun drive between Squamish and Whistler when its snowing out, can be a nightmare but this time of year, its an easy drive for sure and quite nice, although I have gotten bored with it, but when you do one direction or the other on a regular basis, it loses it's appeal.

Downtown Vancouver is always a mess, never a pleasant place to drive really, Vancouver in general though is a mess, poorly planned city for the automobile.

When I moved from Toronto to Vancouver, I was amazed to find that cars would stop in the middle of the road to let me cross. I had not seen that anywhere else in Canada. Not sure if this is behind the apparently suicidal pedestrians.

Mind you, this was 25 years ago, and there has been a lot of immigration since, so I would imagine most of the local pedestrians have either adopted or long since been run down.
