It takes repeated applications. Wait until Tyrone gets sprayed then you can decide if it's better or worse than tomato juice. :-)

I'm in Bear country in Ontario, but this fall my daughter found a black bear in our back yard, she cried and hid under her slide, and it scarpered with the sound of crying but came back a little while later and stayed for two hours on and off. We've also had to clear bear scat up from our garden

OP , I think you are being wound up a little!!
Skunks etc are rare, we have never seen one in over 7 years and we live next to a Provincial park. Bears more common but nothing to fret about.
I think your biggest worry is this:
Kelowna rental vacancy rate lower than Vancouver’s | Globalnews.ca
A rental will be hard to find, most want 1 year tenancy, most do not want dogs so 2 dogs will be a tough find.
We managed it with 1 big dog, but in a climate where rentals were easy to find, it helped that the owner slightly mistakenly thought we might buy the place!
We advertised ourself when we arrived and had several replies. We stayed at our local ski resort meantime BUT it was summer so availability up there.
You might have to pay well over the odds to get somewhere and for a 4 bed house accepting 2 dogs for only 6 months- that may be quite a bit of $$$$. You may be competing against the vacation market especially if your 6 months was over the summer.
