Re: Construction Consultants...
Ok thanks Oompa - perhaps we will start the process quite soon then. I am of the impression there is no major financial commitment until later down the line in the process.

It's free to apply to enter the EE pool, so those are the only things you'd have to pay out for to start with unless you're selected and invited to apply for PR, at which point you'd then have the visa fees plus other costs (medical, police cert etc) to pay for.

After landing he worked for a few years for Trident and then teamed up with an architect also working for the same company.
Both being smart, they figured out that they could do just as well as their employers and raised some venture capital on their own business plan.
They're both multimillionaires now but Ian (the husband of a second cousin of mine) remains a remarkably pleasant and grounded human being.
He even bought his eldest son a Craft Brewery.

Ah we live 10mins from that brewery.... They have a nice beer festival in the summer with all the craft breweries there from all over and nice foodie stalls too.. I'm not fussed on beer but they had cider makers too and good music too well if you like that sort of folky country thing going on...

That sounds like the CIC website. So you're eligible to apply and enter the pool of applicants, now you need to figure out your score on the CRS to see if you'd score above the 450 or so required to be invited to apply for PR. Express Entry – Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Criteria If so, then I really wouldn't advise you leave it until January to 'kick start the process' if you hope to move in August. Usually it takes around 2-3 months to get your IELTS results, ECA, etc, so you wouldn't even be able to apply until around March or April if that's the case, then you've got to wait until CIC do a draw and pick the applicants they invite to apply for PR, then it'll take a month or so to gather more documents once invited, then you've got about 6 months processing time as well. So I'd get cracking if you are eligible for EE and that's the route you plan to go down. Best of luck with it.

Re: Construction Consultants...
Not construction consultancy per se but I am just about to make the move to Van and I work in Engineering Consultancy. Generally the market seems ok right now, although what I do is quite specialised and has a very high public profile right now which is driving work. On the whole construction works seems to be doing ok right now and in cities like Vancouver and Toronto I cant see it ever really going away, not with the current housing shortages. Alberta is suffering a little at the moment after the drop in oil prices. You may find the documents below helpful from which gives a little bit of an outlook on the current trends in the industry. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...08194040,d.d2s

My family and I are in Glasgow and are in the process of immigrating to Toronto. At the start of November I accepted an offer with a construction firm in Toronto and I am currently working with the company to get the LMIA process complete. They are vastly experienced at going through this process and reckon it will take about 3 months to get all permits, visas etc.
I am a building Estimator with a honours degree in Quantity Surveying so I assume you would probably be in a role similar to myself and I think your salary expectation should probably be about $90k as an estimate for you.
We have chosen to live in Milton in the Halton region of the GTA if all things go to plan.
If u have any more questions please ask as I will be going through this process between now and when we move which should be beginning of July.

Thanks. All the best with whatever you and your family decide to do.
