Childcare costs - Vancouver
Planning to relocate with 2 preschoolers from UK next spring. Is there a pre-tax deductible for childcare costs like childcare vouchers in the UK. Looking at online tax calculators looks like there is. If so, how does it work? Is it deducted from pre-tax salary by employers like here or recouped through a tax return?

Childcare costs may reduce your taxable income when claimed when filing your tax return. In other words, you pay the full amount upfront and then take whatever refund the government may give you. The amount you may receive back will depend upon your income.
In some areas it may be possible to receive a subsidy that will reduce the amount of the cost, but that will depend upon your income.

It is a deduction from the earned income of the spouse with the lowest taxable income. The amount is up to $8,000 per child for preschool children.
I highlighted the earned bit in case one of you is working through a corporation. Dividends do not count as earned income.
