Default Cellphone, Internet, cable bundle deals

I know that deals pop up from time to time and that what one mans chalk is another's cheese, can anyone recommend a company that can give us a bundle to cover all of the above without it costing me the equivalent of a small mortgage?

3 of us, 2 of us have unblocked iPhones and we need to get another iPhone.
No point having smart phones without data, so need data.
Not fussed about international calls.

Internet at home needs to be reasonably quick, no gamers at home, but may use the Internet to stream tv. No xbox or PS3/4.

Do I need a cable tv deal? 10 days in a hotel has taught me that not much on there is worthy of watching.

Might like home phone.....perhaps for cheap calls to
U.K. Plus work can then call me and this should be cheaper than them phoning me on my Canadian mobile.

Anyone a black belt at this stuff? Thanks

Default Re: Cellphone, Internet, cable bundle deals

A couple of years back we halved the cost of our cable tv when a cheaper way of bundling was introduced. We sacrificed a couple of channels but they weren't worth the extra it would have cost to get them back. We had a separate internet/landline phone provider in Bell Aliant.

A year on and Bell Aliant was offering a TV, phone and internet package (all fibreop) for a three year price that was less than the total of the phone bill and the reduced cable cost and gave us back the missing channels.

The price at the end of the three years is still going to be good. The internet is brilliant.

Shaw cable just introduced what they call "Wideopen Internet" a couple of weeks ago.

-150Mbps download speed
-15 Mbps upload speed
-1 TB data included per month
-Advanced modem included (Bridgeable)

As a new subscriber you can get:
Internet 150 + Personal tv + Phone
$89.90/month for 12 months
$141.90/month for month 13-24
$197.00 ongoing.

Tv bundles include:

1-2 Pvr's (dcx3510)
https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1533

or

Shaw Gateway (XG1) and 2 portals
https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-5559

*Equipment becomes free rentals after the 2 years*

You can read all and I do mean all about, it in this thread. You`ll likely get bored after the first couple of pages, but it will be enlightening.
[Shaw] Lauches Wideopen Internet 150 $49.90/$79.90/month for 2 years! - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

As an aside the website Red Flag Deals is a pretty good one to subscribe to on your web browser. Especially the Hot Deals Forum

cell phone comparisons

Compare BYOD Plans in Alberta

For long distance including calling from a cell phone to the UK, which is what our daughter does, she uses the CiCi calling cards which previously we , now she have been using for 10 years now, and which you can get from the flea market or the local variety store. You don't need to buy on line

CiCi Phone Card

Buy in $5 or $10 lots, its $0.02/minute to the UK

Internet home phone (once you have a good cheap internet plan) , check out ooma phone. You can get this from Best Buy, Staples and a few other places such as Amazon.ca

The Ooma Telo is the smarter home phone - Best Buy Canada

on the TV thing, agree, not much on Canadian or American TV till you start watching Hockey, Baseball & basketball

in the meantime, like many that have decent internet speed & bandwidth (without a VPN), that like free UK TV watching, there are several streaming sites

Camposat.Tv

https://www.filmon.com/

or compare the android boxes/sticks/media streamers available

Ok, I committed to cell phones today, I got two iPhone 6s for free, I have 5gb data, free calls in and out throughout Canada. $195 per month for 2 years, pricey but I am a new immigrant and I need to get communicated up.

I shall check the Internet /tv options above tomorrow. Cheers.

By the way had a Samuel Adams beer from the Celtic in shawnessy tonight, out of date cloudy, they have a fridge of it, had great pleasure telling them it was 4 month out of date. They replaced it with wife beater!

No kidding. That's more than double the cost it could have been.

Yep, crap happens. But I did get the phones and the shared data I need, I can always look again in 2 years. I can get another phone and number in 4 months for an additional $70 for daughter, when compared to uk is on par. Not all is lost. Thanks for letting me know.

Absolutely nuts....

To all newbies & Brit expat immigrants

'slow down, you move too fast', always ask BE members first before spending money, OP just like the power adaptor issue you had

So we have checked out both Telus and shaw, shaw only has 3 stores in Calgary, so customer service may be wanting...though I don't have any evidence to prove this.

Shaw on premium tv, Internet and home phone for first year on 150 wide and is $110 pm.
Year two is $189.

Telus will give a similar package for 6 months, albeit slower for $89. Then it is $189 on a two year contract. So some cash saving on shaw.

Any VPN issues that I need to know about, can I use a software VPN on EITHER system?

Again, chalk and cheese, should I be aware of anything else before I make a decision, I am tempted to go with shaw. Can you persuade me to do otherwise? Thanks

Are you going to be watching Canadian tv, generally, or are you going the VPN route? You might want to check out the minimum package that they must give you for cable - it's around $38 a month.

There's also:
VMedia | Best Bundles Deals for TV, Internet & Phone
https://www.ciktel.com/ (check their promotions)

and a fair few others Canadian ISP - Find an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Canada

I thought there was supposed to be a $15 package.....something like that anyway. I remember getting Rogers mailshots for that much even before a minimalist thing came in. Not that it was worth it, mind.
