It's a trebuchet. Saw one in action at Warwick Castle a few weeks ago and they can inflict serious amounts of damage from a safe distance, the perfect kit for ending sieges.

I'll try editing the clip to a mangable attachable size, as a wmv. Dunno if macs can handle that either?

The big wooden wheels have slaves going round like hamsters to wind it up which takes ages, but in medieval times they weren't in a hurry and it was all part of the gradual beating down of the enemy.
