Many Canadians are socially conservative and left wing at the same time.

Ideologies aside, you only have to look at the practical policy differences between the Liberal and Conservative parties at the federal level. However i've always taken this is as an indicator of how good things are up North.

People seem to vote for whatever party has the best chance at beating the party they don't like even if the party they are voting for don't really follow their beliefs and ideology.

For instance an NDP'r voting Liberal if the Liberals have the better chance at forming government.

Doesn't seem to be as many party line voter types like you find down south.

Which doesn't make much sense really. The Liberals are a right wing party.

The voters I know don't seem to care as long as it's not the conservatives, so they vote for the party who has the best chance at forming a government to oust the conservatives, they don't seem to care much which party wins as long as its not the conservatives...

On the provincial side you have people who loathe the BC Liberals but still vote for them just to keep the NDP from winning.
