Big News........
Well for many a year, we often discussed between ourselves at home, what we missed about the UK....9 times out of 10 we would come to the conclusion of absolutely NOTHING...however deep down, we hankered after a nice bar of Cadbury's chocolate, and a decent Curry.
We have scoured Calgary for a decent curry house....and have found a good one, but it is a fair old drive to go to....especially as we live in Cochrane...Anyway some enterprising young couple have now actually opened up one in Cochrane...we went last night, and it was actually very nice....If anyone is interested it's across from starbucks.
Also if you like thai food the thai restaurant that is a couple of doors down is pretty decent as well.
................so all we need now is a shop that sells cabury's chocolate, at a price cheaper than an air fare ticket.

Some friends of ours ate there last night too ... and we got a take-away curry from there with some other friends - and although there was a complete mix-up with someone else collecting our order ( ), they re-made our order and we had a pretty decent meal.
Hurrah - it could be a little goldmine, what with the high concentration of desperate curry-loving Brits in this town

Re: Big News........
just came across this:
British, Scottish immigrants welcomed with rain, curry
By Rachel Maclean, Cochrane Eagle, August 15, 2007. Printed with permission
Despite the pouring rain, more than 50 people turned out for a Cochrane block party Aug. 8 to welcome new British immigrants to the area and to enjoy some East Indian food — a Brit favourite.
Among the crowd was Stewart O’Neill, who emigrated to Canada from a town south of London with his family four years ago because they were searching for a better lifestyle, lower crime rates and better opportunities for their kids.
“We fell in love with Cochrane right away,” O’Neill said. “The views, the mountains and the people. Our boys have thrived in the schools here.”
O’Neill, who was a policeman in London for 10 years, said officers are much more respected here than in England, but otherwise the job is quite similar — except they didn’t use guns in London.

It's called the Mehtab East Indian Cuisine, 5th Ave West, Cochrane
Tel 851-0100
www.mehtabrestaurant.com
The rojan josh was pretty warm - I like hot food and that was a warm one. Our friends said the korma had a kick too - but I don't know how they like their curries - a korma should be pretty creamy and bland! Maybe the chef slipped with the chilli that day
Anyway - generally not bad at all - 7/10 from us.

Re: Big News........
This is worrying ... is the curry in Canada not very good? ...
This could be a deciding factor on the emmigration decision. Curry is important. Actually, so are chips - what are chips like?

You soon learn to make your own curry and my eldest daughter has gotten into the habit of making naan bread and those other wonderful delights "onion bargees"
