Looks like the US is pushing ahead with driverless cars, with new light touch rules and the expectation that it will reduce accidents.

with Obama pushing the policy it seems

Worth noting that the rumour has google announcing a merger of ChromeOS and Android on 4th Oct - codename "Andromeda". Looks like they will be attacking the 2-in-1/laptop/desktop market with that, and the large number of Android apps running in individual windows.

Google's merged Android-Chrome OS 'Andromeda' may be teased on October 4th

Won't be out of beta till 2017, but there's a long list of existing chromebooks that are likely to get the update.

This will be interesting. I just hope that Chrome OS isn't affected in any way in desktop form as it's a great system. And personally I don't like Android much, so all I'd like is to maybe use phone/tablet apps on my Chromebook in some sort of emulator mode.

Hopefully everything will move along smoothly and Chromebook users will enjoy greater perks without having any negative changes forced onto them in terms of the OS...

Battle of the drones is really heating up. Both GoPro and DJI announced new drones within the past week or two. I don't have a drone but when you see the DJI Mavic Pro, it's hard to not be curious.

Surprisingly, Australia's drone laws aren't too strict for non commercial use.

That new FPV plane from Parrot looks awesome

Building drones is great fun too

The FAA in the US has gone completely overboard on recreational drones whereas CASA has taken a more open approach - probably in the knowledge that something tht you can buy at BigW and JB HiFi is going to almost impossible to regulate

Melbourne just took a step backwards. WIFI. How retro. Apparently its "world class free Wi-Fi". I wonder if it completes with plain old 4G?

Melbourne just got free Wi-Fi
It apparently delivers serious bandwidth - 100Mbit each way- and when I used it on Wednesday it was like being connected at home.

I'll agree that putting up municipal 4G towers might be a better bet - but that would really piss of Telstra ...... free bandwidth to all would kill their golden goose.

You'd have to be a special type of retard to do this:

Just goes to show that the iphone is basically a fashion accessory bought by teenage airheads

The mind boggles

Yep, indeed.

Hilarious, but quite a mean prank to play.

I reckon apple will regret their decision to leave it out.

Samsung take note.

It's a followup to the "put your iphone in a microwave to recharge it" from two years ago. Typical 4chan prank to make fun of the clueless.

Unfortately more fell for "we aren't going to damage medicare, we are going to create jobs". You'd have thought the NBN would have clued them in to the lies...

Meanwhile the RBA have put in their two pennies on automation and jobs saying "the biggest threats will come in jobs that can be copied by technology" (gee, doyah thunk?)

unfortunately their understanding of 'non-routine' is horribly out of date, suggesting that "health care and social assistance sector" are safe - whereas the opposite is expected.

RBA says the future of work lies in non-routine 'thinking' jobs | afr.com

However, just the other day google announced their AI translator was getting closer to human standard - which is hardly routine cognitive.

Google’s new translation software is powered by brainlike artificial intelligence | Science | AAAS

And Uber is pushing ahead ...

Well look at that. When Libs are in power unemployment goes down. When Labor is in it unemployment goes up.

You probably want to just roll over and move back to Automation ..... the graphs paint and ugly picture for your beloved Labor party and unemployment. They certainly don't help your lies about jobs.
