Re: Truck Terror
The western world is talking.
You had the booing of the French president today, you have the Trump success, you have the Brexit vote, hell you even have Pauline Hanson and Jacqui Lambie who wants an equiry into islam. Pauline got 4% of the vote 1 senate vote Australia wide.
You can write this off as old white people without passports voting with their narrow minds but the point is, no one likes the massacre of innocent people for reasons they cannot help or stop themselves.
Shits happening, shits rising, and it all points back to 2 things in commom. Immigration and Islam.
Just saying.

Sonia Kruger calls on Australia to stop taking Muslim immigrants
She seems to have stirred up quite a kerfuffle from the usual crowd.
Internet borrows Sonia Kruger's #AsAMother defence to fight back against bigotry
Today Extra response to Sonia Kruger's Muslim controversy typifies mess

Re: Truck Terror
Err, nope.
What you are seeing it a reaction to the corruption and general uselessness of the usual political suspects. People don't think they either have a clue, or are there to actually represent them.
So they vote for the joke candidate.
Why do you think Derryn Hinch is there?
That's at the root of this - "anyone but the above"

Andrew Bolt makes a very good assessment. How we as the tax payer can be paying for the ABC and Australia Race Discrimiation Commissioner be subsided by the taxpayer for their hypocritical and bigotted views of Sonia Kruger?

Re: Truck Terror
I don't like everything that Hanson says and wouldn't have voted for but man, she spoke some common sense on Q&A on Monday. As for Kruger, if you listen to what she's saying, you'll hear that she's concerned that innocent families are being wiped out by some islamic terrorist nutjobs and she doesn't want the same to happen here. What's wrong with that? If people can't speak out against aspects of islam that they are concerned about without being cast as racist, what hope does our democracy have?

Sober, serious, reserved type characters - even with the same far right tendencies, tend not to do very well.
Call it the BoJo factor.

Let's be honest, all of those are larger than live, bombastic, frankly ludicrous, candidates that will say and do things to make people chuckle.

Theresa May looks pretty sober and serious to me. So do Merkel, Obama, Turnbull, Key, Abe etc
They all look to be doing pretty well

Seriously Garry. You are better than that.
The problem is, terror is topical, terror has a purpose - islam, terror has a solution - get rid of Islam, terror is striking fear in to the average family. People are voting for them because of fear. ..... and it isn't because they are the joke candidate.
Its the same thing as pollies going after medicare - its strikes fear into the average lefty. You voted for that. Rednecks vote for Hanson.
See the parallels?

After the events in Turkey on the weekend, I had a read about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern version of that nation
What a man
The islamic world could do with a 21st century Atatürk to help it reform itself - reform that it desperately needs

Re: Truck Terror
But you're forgetting that those who consider themselves intellectually superior (aka champagne socialists aka socialism for everyone but themselves) don't like it when real people vote for candidates who are addressing their concerns - concerns that the (alleged) intellectually superior sneer at as being racist, bigoted, small-minded etc
That said the champaign socialists are more dangerous than Hanson.
Hanson is simple, easily understood, calls a spade a spade. The socialists just breed hypocrisy and take the focus away from the real issues.

Point is that extremist far right types don't tend to get in unless they are loony. Even abbott comes under that heading really.
Jeb Bush was far right, but boring - look what happened to him.
If you are far right, you better be packing the clown shoes.

Seems like I don't even have to point out you are wrong these days - you do it for yourself.

You see the parallels on voting for Islamic fear and Mediscare fear right?

Who gives a shit what Murdoch says, he's only relative if people do/vote as he suggests. He has an opinion and he's entitled to it but it is no more relevant or irrelevant than yours or mine
You don't like him because he has a right-wing, conservative viewpoint but you are then prepared to listen to and accept the viewpoints of left-wing, western-hating assholes like Flannery, Corbyn, Chomsky, Moore, various Guardian journalists etc
Swings and roundabouts comrade
If you don't like what Murdoch has to say, don't listen to him, don't read his publications
